When it comes to setting goals in January we have the tendency to overpromise and underdeliver when it comes to our personal goals.
The problem with doing this is that we set ourselves up for failure by trying to change too many things (habits) at once, which can only lead to disappointment. 
When you try to create too many habits at once (i.e. eliminate sugar, workout every day,  go for a walk each morning, stop smoking etc.), you drastically reduce your chances of sticking to new healthy habits and changes.
As you will see from the table the more habits you try to change at once the less chance you have of achieving them
Instead, Start Small.
Start by making small changes and implementing just 1 or 2 habits at a time. They should be so incredibly simple that they almost feel too easy... 

So Instead of starting a strict diet protocol why not begin by applying simple habits such as:
 

  •  Cutting out what you feel is junk food and replacing with what you feel is healthy food.
  •  Eating until you are about 80% full
  •  Eliminate high calorie drinks such as soft drinks
  •  Aiming for 3 gym sessions per week instead of 6.
The best part about making small changes is that they add up over time to create significant and noticeable progress.
 Plus, once you form a habit that sticks, you’ll create accountability within yourself the keep the streak going. 
 You know that feeling you get when you don’t brush your teeth before bed? That's what you want for your healthy habits. 
You want to feel "off" when you don't follow through on them.

My name is Eamonn Gallagher. In June  I had some health problems. Being overweight and unfit were the main reasons that it was time for me to change my lifestyle so I decided to do something about it. I decided to contact Peak Fitness 4u for advice and on doing so I booked an appointment for a consultation with Anthony Murray. After out discussion he devised a plan to help me improve my health, change my diet and achieve my goals. At the start my weight was 19stone 4lbs and my waist size was 48inches. We then decided on a exercise programme.
At this present time Anthony informed me that there was a challenge to raise funds for cancer research which Anthony said for every 1lb lost £1 would be donated by him in a period of 6 weeks. I lost 35lbs costing Anthony a total of £35 which he was glad to pay. With the assistance of Anthony and other members of his staff I progressed very well and was on the right road to achieving my target weight which was 14stone. My programme was changed every 6 weeks for the development of all the relevant areas of my body. I usually train 3 times per week and sometimes more if I have the time.
It has been a lot of hard work and also fun. My present measurements are 14stone 4lbs and my waist is 36inches. I hope to continue going to the gym to maintain my weight. Anthony has used my profile to promote the gym to let the public know what can be achieved with motivation and commitment from a 64 year old. ACCOUNTABILITY IS KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS!
WHO HOLDS YOU ACCOUNTABLE?
Another one of the big mistakes people make during their weight loss journey is: 
They never reach out to another person for help.
There's no doubt that support groups create accountability.
And here are several ways to create accountability 

The first is to turn to a friend.
 "problem with this however is that friends can often be unreliable and lack motivation to push you.

The Second is to hire a Personal Trainer
"Problem is that this can be expensive"

SO WHATS INVOLVED IN THE ROUTE 63 PROGRAM?

You see we have developed this program to ensure that we take you on your weight loss journey 1 STEP AT A TIME.

Research has shown that it takes between 63-66 days to form a habit. With that said we want to work with you for 63 days to ensure your healthy eating and exercise becomes a habit just like brushing your teeth.

SO HOW DO WE DO THIS ?
As you have seen in the above table that the more good habits your try to create at once the less chance you have of sticking to them. Think about it . The table shows that if you try to create 4 good habits at once then only around 25% or 1 in 4 people will stick them. 
Compare this to breaking 1 habit at a time and you will have 90% chance of success.

It reminds me of the tortoise and the snail scenario. "slow and steady wins the race"

You see our program is split into 3 phases
REMINDER PHASE DAYS 1-21
In this phase we are going to meet with you for a one to one consultation and have a chat with you about your goals , challenges and what' has stopped you in the past.
We will then develop a specific program asking you to exercise a minimum of 3 x per week.  
The next step will be to take you through this program and ensure you fully understand everything. 
 
 With regards to nutrition we wont rush in “remember one habit at a time” . However we will ask you to track what you are actually eating over the first 21 day phase. And also ask you to cut out what you know is junk food and replace it with a healthy alternative. 
We will then make a 2 week appointment with you to check your progress and then book you in for the cross over to PHASE 2 appointment.

ROUTINE PHASE DAYS 21-42
During your phase 2 appointment we will check your progress and advance the exercise program. We will also request that you add one more days exercise into your routine.
The next step during your phase 2 appointment is to check how many calories you have been taking in from your calorie tracking app and we will make a decision for you on whether we need to get you to increase, decrease or keep your calories the same. We will also check your tracker to see if your protein levels are optimal.
So after phase 1 you have now created the habits of exercising 3 times per week and marking foods in your food tracker. 
And for phase 2 we are going to add the habits of exercising 4 times per week instead of 3 and sticking as close as you can to the calories we recommend for you. 
Once again we will check your progress after 2 weeks and then follow on to book you in for the cross over to PHASE 3 appointment. 



RESULTS PHASE- DAYS 42-63
As with the previous crossover appointment we will now go into the final phase appointment.
By this point you will have lost weight and be feeling great and now its time to step it up and master more habits. 

So congratulations you have now made training 4 times per week, adding foods and counting calories on your tracker a habit.  
So now its time to step slightly out that comfort zone again and ask you to add one more day to your exercise. Yeah thats right 5 times per week for exercise.  
We will now also introduce you to macro nutrients which are basically , protein , Fats and carbohydrates.  
By now you will be more than comfortable using your calorie tracking app so all we have to do now is to show you how to track your macros. You will then once again be booked in for a 2 week check up and then booked in for your completion appointment . 
During this appointment we will congratulate you on your will and determination we will celebrate your AMAZING fat loss results 

and most importantly we will celebrate the new habits. You have created to ensure you continue you on your journey throughout the year.
